What Is Gastroenterology
What Is An Endoscopy
What An Endoscopy Can Do For You
Endoscopy is a modern, non-surgical procedure that allows us to view the inside of your digestive tract in real time using a flexible, camera-equipped tube. It’s one of the most effective tools in gastroenterology — helping us detect and often treat issues during the same procedure.
It’s performed under short-acting anaesthesia (usually Propofol), so you’re completely asleep but still breathing on your own.
There’s no pain, no full narcosis and no hospital stay. The procedure typically takes just 10 to 20 minutes, and most patients are ready to go home shortly afterward. Endoscopy is used to examine symptoms like chronic reflux, bleeding, or difficulty swallowing, and allows us to take biopsies, remove polyps, or stop bleeding as needed — all quickly and safely.
What Types Of Endoscopies We Offer
Gastroscopy (Upper GI Endoscopy)
Used to examine the oesophagus, stomach, and upper part of the small intestine (duodenum). Often recommended for symptoms like reflux, heartburn, nausea, or difficulty swallowing. A small biopsy may be taken if needed — completely painless under sedation.
Colonoscopy (Lower GI Endoscopy)
Used to examine the colon and rectum. Recommended for rectal bleeding, changes in bowel habits, or as a routine screening for polyps and inflammation. Polyps or abnormal tissue can be removed or sampled during the same procedure if necessary.
Your Body Knows First
Digestive problems can start small — bloating, discomfort, or changes in bowel habits — but they can point to deeper issues. And catching them early makes a big difference. That’s why people come to us when they experience:
Persistent heartburn or indigestion
Abdominal pain after eating
Irregular bowel habits or urgent bowel movements
Difficulty swallowing or the sensation of food getting stuck
Fatigue, anaemia, or unexplained weight loss
It’s also key in managing chronic conditions such as acid reflux, irritable bowel syndrome, ulcers or inflammatory bowel diseases like Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis. At Omegascope, our focus is to get to the root of the problem — using advanced diagnostics, expert insight, and a personalised approach to help you feel better and stay healthy.
Changing Your Daily Habits
How To Improve Your Digestive Health
Better Gut…
Support your digestion with simple, everyday habits: chew your food slowly, eat regularly, and drink enough water. Add fibre-rich foods like vegetables and whole grains to your meals and limit fried or sugary foods that can cause bloating. Even a short daily walk can boost gut movement and reduce discomfort.
…Better Life
A healthy gut improves more than digestion — it boosts your mood, sleep, energy, and immunity. Get enough rest, manage stress and stay active. Listen to your body’s signals and don’t ignore symptoms like fatigue or irregular bowel habits. Small changes, like mindful eating and balanced meals, lead to lasting well-being.
Non-Surgical Weight Loss Solutions
Gastric Balloon
The gastric balloon is placed inside the stomach via endoscopy and filled with sterile saline solution. It gently reduces the stomach’s capacity, helping you feel full faster and eat smaller portions. The procedure takes about 20 minutes under light sedation and is completely reversible after a few months, offering a safe, temporary, and effective boost to your weight loss journey.
